💥 X TV App Launches for Smart TVs, Bringing Social Video to the Big Screen

X, formerly Twitter, has released the beta version of its X TV app, allowing users to watch videos and live streams from the platform directly on their smart TVs. Currently available on LG, Amazon Fire, and Google TVs, the app offers high-quality streaming of user-generated and curated content. 30” Startup Story

💥 Airbnb

One fascinating startup story is that of Airbnb—now one of the most famous platforms for short-term rentals, but its beginnings were quite unconventional.

In 2007, roommates Brian Chesky and Joe Gebbia were struggling to afford their San Francisco apartment rent. Around that time, a large design conference was coming to town, and hotels were fully booked. Chesky and Gebbia saw an opportunity: they bought air mattresses and listed their apartment as an “Air Bed & Breakfast” to host conference attendees. This idea of short-term lodging with personal hosting appealed to the attendees, and the concept took off.

They partnered with their third co-founder, Nathan Blecharczyk, to scale the idea. However, success was not immediate. In 2008, the company was almost broke. They famously resorted to selling custom-made cereal boxes themed around the U.S. presidential election ("Obama O's" and "Cap'n McCain") to fund their fledgling business. The stunt worked, raising $30,000 and keeping them afloat during tough times.

Airbnb faced multiple challenges, including skepticism about the idea of strangers staying in private homes. However, they leveraged design thinking and user experience feedback to refine their platform, focusing on trust and safety, which eventually led to its massive success.

Today, Airbnb is a multi-billion-dollar company with a global presence, but its scrappy, creative origins remain a core part of its story
